1. What adhesive is used for AAC blocks?

You’ll need ready-to-use, grey-cement-based mortar with non-shrinking and self-curing properties. These types of adhesives are not only great for AAC blocks but also come in handy when it comes to fly ash bricks, concrete blocks, and similar materials. 

First, you apply a bonding layer of AAC block adhesive that’s at least 1 to 2 mm thick. Do so using a trowel before placing the mixed mortar. Finally, apply the AAC block adhesive at a thickness of 8 to 10 mm. Use a rubber to achieve a smooth finish. 

Using a block bonding adhesive is simple; just follow the steps below

  • Clean up the surface
  • Mix the adhesive properly
  • Make sure to apply a thin layer of this adhesive onto the AAC block. The thickness should be around 3 to 5 mm. Using a trowel will make things easier. 

For the best results, keep the following things in mind

  • Always add powder to water
  • Avoid adding excess water. Stick to what’s recommended. 
  • Avoid adding cement and sand on-site. 
  • Do not apply to wet screed. Your surface should be completely cured. 
  • Avoid using this adhesive to correct surface irregularities that are greater than 15 mm.
  • Once applied, make sure the surface isn’t exposed to rain or footfall for the first 24 hours. 
  • It is recommended to consider using an additional mechanical fastening system (such as steel hooks fastened to the substrate) for more than 3m in height. This will ensure better security.
